Ford recalls 565,691 Broncos over engine wiring fire risk
A wiring harness can rub against nearby parts, expose internal wires, and short. Ford says the resulting heat or spark could ignite material in the engine compartment.

The short version
Why Ford issued the recall
Ford says movement between the engine wiring harness and nearby components can wear through insufficient abrasion protection. Once internal wiring is exposed, an intermittent short can arc, create heat or sparks, and ignite nearby flammable material.
As of July 13, Ford had identified 15 incidents in which a fire may have started at the engine-compartment wiring harness: seven involving Bronco Raptor vehicles and eight involving other Broncos. The company reported no related crashes or injuries.

Smoke, a warning, then flames
Ford says a driver may first notice smoke through the air vents or a cluster warning. Flames could then appear from the passenger side of the engine compartment.
The remedy
More protection for the harness
A Ford or Lincoln dealer will add convolute sheathing and abrasion tape to prevent chafing and future shorts. The repair is free.
