Jeep recalls 1,076,999 Wranglers and Gladiators over power-steering fire risk
An electrical connection at the electric-hydraulic power-steering pump can develop high resistance and overheat nearby combustible material, creating a risk of a vehicle or surrounding fire.

The short version
Why Chrysler issued the recall
Chrysler says the electrical connection at the electric-hydraulic power-steering pump can be susceptible to high resistance. The resulting heat can overheat nearby combustible material and lead to a vehicle fire or a fire involving surrounding property.
As of May 18, 2026, Chrysler had identified 35 field reports with evidence of overheating at the pump interface. The filing lists no related accidents and one injury that may be related across all markets. Chrysler estimates that 0.1% of recalled vehicles have the defect.

Until the remedy is completed, Chrysler advises owners to park away from buildings and other vehicles because overheating can occur even when the ignition is off.

Inspection, then repair or replacement
An authorized dealer will inspect the power-steering-pump connection and repair or replace affected parts as necessary. Recall work is free.
