Toyota recalls 4,100 replacement airbags for Tundra and Tacoma trucks
Some curtain airbags used in past Tundra or Tacoma repairs may not work as planned. Owners should check their repair records.

Which repairs may be involved
Toyota announced the recall on July 29, 2026. It covers about 4,100 curtain airbag parts. The parts were made from December 2021 through December 2025. They may not open as planned in some crashes.
Toyota is contacting known owners of 2014-2021 Tundra CrewMax and Double Cab trucks. These trucks had a curtain airbag replaced after November 2021. Toyota is also contacting known owners of 2016-2023 Tacoma trucks with a replacement installed after May 2024.
Why the recall matters
Curtain airbags open from the roof rails in some crashes. They help protect people inside the truck. Toyota says a covered part may not open the right way. This can raise the risk of injury.
What owners and shoppers should do
- Check the repair records for a curtain airbag job. Note the date of the work.
- Enter the VIN or plate number in the Toyota or NHTSA recall tool.
- Call a Toyota dealer if the repair date may fall in the recall period. Do not wait for a letter.
- If you buy or sell one of these trucks, keep proof of the check and any new repair.
What the repair involves
A Toyota dealer will check the truck for a covered part. The dealer will replace that part for free. Toyota plans to mail letters to known owners by late September 2026. It may send more letters as it finds other trucks.
